Residents in Massachusetts had to endure a treacherous Winter of 2015 but they were not the only ones that had a difficult times. While we were inside our home, trees constantly got hit by blizzard after blizzard. High winds and heavy snow fall always leaves trees vulnerable. When snow storms occur every single week for a month straight, trees tend to be damaged at some point or another.
Some impacts of this winter include a heavy snow and ice on tree limbs. Trees with brittle wood can break and loose limbs from too much weight. Another impact that we have seen is caused by salt. Salt laid down by trucks often gets into the water and is then taken up by trees. Many trees are unable to handle this much salt, which results in dieback. Another winter issue, trees have to endure is “winter kill”. Evergreen trees are susceptible to this, and it is when sunny winter days trick trees into trying to photosynthesize. The problem with this is that trees water to complete this process and there roots can’t do this because the ground is frozen. Dieback is often a result of trees.
This is the time after the snow has all finally gone away, to check your trees. Kelley Tree provides tree health checks for all residents in MA. We will evaluate tree damage and can determine the best tree remove technique.
